Never heard of the original manga or the movie, I saw this is in my spotlight so I decided to check it out and It's actually pretty good. It's a little predictable at times and sometimes I wish the characters weren't giving speeches every 10 mins, but the plot is interesting, animation is good, voice acting is amazing and I like the soundtrack. Also, It's deals with a lot of themes and philosophies in each episode, which I think is one of the more interesting parts of the series. You should check it out.
